The IX Jornades de Llengües Estrangeres took place in Salou from November 24th-26th. The conference took place in IES Jaume I and the students from the school provided entertainment, acted as hosts/hostesses and carried out interviews with participants. Sessions were offered for English, French, Catalan and German. There were approximately 200 teachers signed up and a number of students also attended the sessions.
Ninety participants attended Nina Lauder’s talk Creating Curiosity in the Classroom which also included some input from Montse Costafreda on how to use some of the tools on the i-pack to encourage curiosity. Nina’s session aimed to point out that curiosity to learn new things is something that, as teachers, we can tap into in the classroom. In essence, learning is critically influenced by learner motivation and our classes are much more productive if students are curious about a topic and engaged in it.
Many thanks to those who attended the session for their active participation and patience, to the organisers, to the students from IES Jaume I, and to the local OUP team.
